Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, in a thinly veiled critique of the BJP-led central government, questioned the state of affairs in the country, particularly focusing on the shrinking borders and the state of press freedom.

Speaking at Aishbagh Eidgah on Eid-ul-Fitr, Yadav highlighted concerns about law and order, unemployment, press freedom, healthcare, and poverty levels.

While refraining from naming any specific party or individual, Yadav emphasized that voters are cognizant of these issues and are poised to bring about change through the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the Congress took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to China’s border transgressions, labeling it as “ineffective and feeble.”

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized Modi’s remarks in an interview with Newsweek magazine, describing them as “cowardly.” In the interview, Modi stressed the importance of stable relations between India and China and expressed hope for peaceful resolution through diplomatic and military engagement.

However, the Congress demanded an apology from Modi for his previous statement in June 2020, where he denied any Chinese intrusion into Indian territory.
